Tucson-Ranked-Among-Most-Affordable-Cities-for-Retirement

Tucson Ranked Among Most Affordable Cities for Retirement

On May 1, 2025, AZCentral reported that Tucson, Arizona, was ranked among the 20 most affordable places to retire in the United States. This recognition came from a GOBankingRates study evaluating key retirement indicators across the country.

Arizona continues to be a popular choice for retirees, celebrated for its natural beauty, sunny climate, and low tax rates. While some areas in the state can be costly, Tucson offers a more accessible alternative for those on a fixed income.

Tucson ranked 16th overall in the GOBankingRates national list, which measured affordability based on three main variables: monthly expenditures, percentage of residents aged 65 or older, and a livability score. Tucson’s average monthly expenditure is just $1,776. Seniors make up 15.8% of the population, and the city received a livability score of 73 out of 100.

The ranking affirms Tucson’s growing reputation as a retirement-friendly city, combining reasonable living costs with access to amenities, cultural opportunities, and a warm desert climate.

9-Arizona-Small-Towns-Recognized-Among-Best-Places-to-Live

9 Arizona Small Towns Recognized Among Best Places to Live

On April 17, 2025, World Atlas and AZCentral recognized nine small towns across Arizona — including Vail, Sahuarita, and Tubac — as some of the best places to live in the state. The article highlighted towns outside metro Phoenix, focusing on lower cost of living, outdoor accessibility, and small-town appeal.

In a time when affordability is a major concern for Arizona residents, these communities stood out for their mix of lifestyle, value, and access to natural amenities. World Atlas emphasized that each town on the list offers a distinctive blend of charm and livability — whether you’re planning to retire, raise a family, or simply enjoy a slower pace of life.

Take Vail, for example: praised for its A-rated school district, local culinary gems like Fito’s Taco Shop, and close proximity to the Cienega Creek Natural Preserve. According to Realtor.com, the median home listing price is approximately $425,000, while the U.S. Census Bureau reports a median household income of $121,385.

These designations reflect a growing trend of Arizona residents exploring life beyond major metros — choosing instead the culture, affordability, and nature found in towns like Sahuarita, Tubac, and Show Low.

3-Arizona-Communities-Rank-Among-Best-Suburbs

3 Arizona Communities Rank Among Best Suburbs in the U.S.

On February 8, 2023, a new national study by SmartAsset recognized three Arizona communities—Vail, Sahuarita, and Apache Junction—as some of the best suburbs in the United States. The study analyzed nearly 500 suburbs across the country, comparing their affordability, job market, and overall livability.

As mortgage rates rise and inflation continues to challenge homebuyers, many are looking to suburban areas for better value. SmartAsset’s analysis found that these three Arizona suburbs offer a combination of strong employment opportunities, affordable housing, and high quality of life—making them appealing alternatives to expensive urban centers.

While large cities are often praised for their vibrancy and amenities, they frequently come with high costs and higher crime rates. Suburbs like Vail, Sahuarita, and Apache Junction provide a more balanced lifestyle, with access to nature, strong schools, and community-focused living. Each community ranked high in key areas such as cost of living, home value, job access, and recreational opportunities.

The study specifically looked at suburbs located within 15 minutes to an hour of a large city (population of 250,000 or more) and ranked them based on 13 different data points. These included housing costs as a percentage of income, unemployment rates, average commute times, and access to entertainment and health care.

For families and individuals looking for a new place to call home in Southern Arizona, the recognition of Vail and Sahuarita underscores their growing appeal as top-tier living destinations.
