Tucson Ranked Among Most Affordable Cities for Retirement

On May 1, 2025, AZCentral reported that Tucson, Arizona, was ranked among the 20 most affordable places to retire in the United States. This recognition came from a GOBankingRates study evaluating key retirement indicators across the country.
Arizona continues to be a popular choice for retirees, celebrated for its natural beauty, sunny climate, and low tax rates. While some areas in the state can be costly, Tucson offers a more accessible alternative for those on a fixed income.
Tucson ranked 16th overall in the GOBankingRates national list, which measured affordability based on three main variables: monthly expenditures, percentage of residents aged 65 or older, and a livability score. Tucson’s average monthly expenditure is just $1,776. Seniors make up 15.8% of the population, and the city received a livability score of 73 out of 100.
The ranking affirms Tucson’s growing reputation as a retirement-friendly city, combining reasonable living costs with access to amenities, cultural opportunities, and a warm desert climate.
